Uganda Walk Day 6
Saturday, March 6th, 2010 D Day. The Big Day! Delia Day!
It did not disappoint!
What a gracious lady and what a superb club … We were made to feel so special and important and then the bonus of a 3-0 victory against Yeovil.
Delia was very moved by our walk and suggested thta the club could help raise further funds in the future if we could provide the “people-power”.
A wonderful day at the end of a wonderful week.
Our God is a great big God and He holds us in His hands… he does this through other people…
Thank you Delia, Richard, June, and all those who have been working hard to make the pilgrimage successful and memorable.
Uganda Walk Day 5
Saturday, March 6th, 2010After an excellent breakfast and a friendly send-off from Romain and staff we strode off confidently towards our destination.
People such as athletes and musicians talk of a state of “flow” when they are so in tune with what they are doing that they seem almost to be on “automatic pilot” and everything is effortless. This was how the fantastic four felt today in spite of blisters and aching muscles - the miles just seemed to disappear and suddenly we were waliking down the Newmarket Road to hotel number four! Ten miles in just over three hours - easy!
After a celebration coffee and biscuit we visited Norwich Cathedral and the Canary Shop! The forecast rain then began but did we care? No, tomorrow we visit Carrow Road!
Uganda Walk Day 4
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010The metaphor of walking is well known and understood by Christians. We often talk of our Christian Journey and this group of Christians has enjoyed sharing, talking and walking.
Walking is simple, measured and rhythmic - we have shared a common pace and this has offered each of us stability and security knowing that we are not going to be left behind.
Our walk with God is no different - the walk transforms us, makes us new and God of course sets us a pace we can manage and never leaves us behind!

(Richard and team take a well earned rest)
Day 4 takes us away from footpaths onto roads. This part of Norfolk seems to have no paths for walking so we are going to be walking in single file today. We will no doubt miss the conversation but we will have the opportunity to reflect on Isaiah’s words - “This is the way walk it.”
The day has dawned frosty but bright and sunny and we look forward to walking with David and John who are joining us from Ramsey for the day.
This diary may not be updated from now until the weekend as internet access is uncertain from now onwards.
Writing this on Saturday evening after our return from Norwich.
It was lovely to walk with our two friends from Ramsey, John and David. A highlight was a literal field study with Farmer David who explained all about sugar beet! Those of us with sore feet and aching legs were encouraged by their fresh legs and support to keep going until we eventually reached Wymondham. We knew we near our next hotel when we saw June’s and Pat’s cars parked near the old Abbey.
On this journey we have met such lovely people and the Abbey Hotel was no exception - Romain was a real “people’s person” as well as being an excellent chef and we were very well looked after again.

A frosty start to the morning and an early breakfast so that we can be off on the last section of the Hereward Way before our final two days in footpathless Norfolk where we will be braving roads.
Yesterday was a fabulous day. Walking in God’s creation has been such a privilege and the pictures above can do but scant justice.
A cold walk today - we needed to keep encouraging each other that lunch wasn’t that far away when we met up with June. What a star - all the way from Ramsey with lunch for four very grateful walkers. Other stars are Elizabeth, Tracey and Lois who have held the fort at home enabling their brave men to join Richard on his Carrow Road Pilgrimage.
Thanks June for lunch! Shame you didn’t stay to dinner - we have just eaten huge plates of fish and chips. Let’s hope we can walk it all off tomorrow!

Uganda Walk Day 2
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010The team made it to Brandon by about 4.30pm after a most beautiful walk through the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk countryside. We were able to walk almost exclusively on the Hereward Way a path that runs from Stamford to Harling Road in Norfolk. Originally we expected a stroll along quiet roads of about 9 miles but a good decision was made to take the footpaths through some beautiful countryside. It would be honest to say that we didn’t expect this part of the walk to be beautiful because when we made a reccee in January the grey heavy clouds were depressing and less than inspiring. What a difference a few weeks, sunshine and some good company makes!
This evening we have been the magnificent four as June, Naomi, Gita, Jim, Lesley and Derek have returned to Ramsey. We have enjoyed talking about the 1960s and 1970s and generally putting the world to rights over a pint or two. The kind landlady here stood us all a pint on the house!
We are all struggling with middle-aged aches and pains tonight and some of us have already had two hot soaks in the bath. Let’s hope we feel more like the 20 year olds we were saying this evening we felt we still are mentally. If not Delia might meet us with four wheelchairs.
